Culture Booster
Extending an Existing Design
Summary
Situation: Culture Booster has created an employee experience software that combines six tools to help organizations improve employee engagement, increase transparency, strengthen collaboration, and capture innovation.
Goal: Extend the current application through a new “manager review” feature within tech constraints and design guidelines.
Process: Our design team conducted stakeholder interviews with the CEO and head of the development team in order to understand the scope of the new “manager review” feature. We created feature concepts based on these interviews and assessed their desirability through Kano Analysis.
Result: I created five annotated wireframes for the new feature that reflect a minimum viable product (MVP) within the development budget. The flow allows the user to schedule a review, write reviews, access past employee reviews, deliver a review, and follow up with employees on goals set during the review.
Background
Defining The Users and Their Goals
Primary Users: Managers looking for support to reach their goals surrounding employee reviews
Secondary Users: Employees looking for honest connection and feedback from their managers
Culture Booster is looking to add a new “Performance Review” feature to their platform. The new feature aims to save managers time and allow for review personalization for each employee. It will also allow for employees to experience a meaningful reflection of their contributions to the company.
Research
Competitive Audit
As a team, we researched other similar programs that currently had a performance review feature. Most competitors didn’t have a website available to the average user, so we had to get creative to understand what made the competitors stand out. I looked to Youtube and G2 to find video and written reviews
User Journey Map
I created this map based on the comparative analysis research in order to model the process of what a performance reviews is like for current users on other competing platforms.
Feature Cards
Every person on the team created 7-10 feature cards to represent possible features for the new performance review section. We chose 10 features to present to the head developer of Culture Booster to determine how many could be done within a 2 week sprint.
The two features cards pictured here are some of the designs I created that our team decided to go with for the final product.
The first feature creates an evaluation page for managers. The manager can fill out a structured review for each employee and add personalized comments.
The second feature allows the manager to see updates for their reviews. They can view if an employee is due for a review and then easily schedule it.
Kano Analysis
We surveyed potential users on their experience with performance reviews and how they might use the feature cards we created in a real scenario. We ran kano analysis to tell us whether a feature was desirable, neutral, or undesirable.
Annotated Wireframes
After all of the research I put together five wireframes that represent what the new feature could look like on the Culture Booster website. I created a report with all of the findings. Some of the annotated wireframes I created are shown below.
Next Steps
Allow for schedule integration to create an easier way for managers and employees to schedule their performance review date and time.
Like other parts of the Culture Booster website- allow employees to give anonymous feedback on their reviews
Allow for images to be uploaded to the notes section. This allow managers to take physical notes during a review which employees typically find more personal than taking notes on a computer.
